Chain of Rocks Bridge

"Chain of Rocks Bridge is one of the more interesting bridges in America.  It’s hard to forget a 30-degree turn midway across a mile-long bridge more than 60 feet above the mighty Mississippi.  For more than three decades, the bridge was a significant landmark for travelers driving Route 66."

We walked the LONGEST PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE, used as a vehicle crossing (1937 - 1960).  It used to be the longest bridge in the world (not any more).  This bridge linked the two states Illinois and Missouri .

This bridge was used as a crossing on route 66 until 1970. Only ONE person was killed while building this bridge.  The saying goes, he was dragged down by his tools to the bottom of the Mississippi
