Not only are the views
impressive, but all the NOTICE BOARDS are too. The introduction to the Grand
Canyon is so useful to all visitors and so easy to follow. Shuttles are running
to and from all the viewpoints every 10 minutes at no charge. The visitors are so disciplined.
There is not a single piece of paper or cigarette bud on the ground.
Everybody respects each other. I hope one day it will be like this in
South Africa!
The weather
forecasted rain for the Canyon. On
arrival the Canyon was overcast. After a
coffee, the mist cleared up and we had beautiful views. The Canyon is 20 miles wide and 260 long. There were 10 tribes staying in this Canyon from
which the Government bought the land. Some
of the tribes were not very happy. The
Government had a lot of private support for funding the park. This is a real jewel for America, something they
really can be proud of.
One day Hans
and I would like to come back and spend some time walking and horse riding. The
river rafting is a bit too scary.
In the photo:
Daniel was once again on the edge of the cliff - See how
Stephanus helps him to safety.
Hans is concentrating to get the best shot.
Elly and Hans studying the map (a massive duty, to make sure we don’t miss
anything interesting)
Carla at one of the beautiful view points.
Alida, Carla and Elly at the entrance of the visitor’s center. We watched a video on the canyon.
